Co-designing a long term community initiative
We’re really excited to be kicking off our work with The Football Association (The FA) to co-design a long term community initiative that identifies and addresses the top priorities for communities around Wembley Stadium and surrounding areas.
Brent is a London borough that has high levels of health and education inequality. The FA currently has strong networks with local community groups, schools and charities, in addition to supporting both Brent Council and the Wembley National Stadium Trust. But they want to go further. They want to make sure their work is responsive to community needs, and so are looking to support community-led actions around the biggest challenges facing Brent, through a community designed project.
a process that allows communities around Brent to collaboratively identify and address their needs
This is where The Social Change Agency comes in. We are working directly with individuals and community organisations in Brent, to co-design the long-term community initiative. We are looking to create a process that allows communities around Brent to collaboratively identify and address their needs – Together you will be making decisions over what the priorities are for the project including areas of needs, local solutions to long-term issues and how to center community voices.
We are particularly excited about this work as a number of our team either are Brent Residents, or used to live there and are as passionate about this as the FA.
How is this going to work?
Using our contacts and research, we have conducted a community mapping exercise, to identify groups and individuals dedicated to supporting the local area.
Following this, we are now looking to build relationships and speak to people about their experiences and needs in Brent.
We are also inviting people in the community to one of the following workshops:
The workshops will last for two and half hours and we are offering £50 to all participants coming to the in-person workshops and £25 for the online workshop to enable equal participation across the borough. There are limited spaces available so don’t delay too long!
During these workshops we will discuss community priorities identified in our outreach and how the community initiative should be structured to ensure it is useful, accessible and accountable to the people of Brent.
