These groups are at the heart of their communities. They’re agile, resourceful and responsive. But because many are unconstituted, they often have to rely on people’s personal accounts or Paypal to manage their money.
This is where things can get tricky. Keeping cash in one person’s name can create power imbalances, sow distrust and even have tax implications if you raise lots of money.
That’s why we teamed up with Open Collective to provide fiscal hosting, a secure, transparent and collaborative way for community-led groups and grassroots movements to manage their money.
We handle the admin and compliance – they save their energy for the important work they were set up to do.
When it came to our finances, we needed a solution that would engender trust with our partners and be as transparent as possible. In a few quick, easy steps we got the ability to pay expenses and fundraise. I don’t know how we would have kept going without it.
That’s not all. We also nurture new social movements, sharing our expertise in governance, decision making and movement building.
We give them the tools, support and resources they need to become strong and sustainable without losing sight of their core values.
When they’re ready to scale up, we help them strengthen their governance and infrastructure. Building a tailored programme of support to accelerate their impact.
We’re currently explore a new way of doing this through an Accelerator model designed to provide capacity building support where and when it is most needed.
